Instructional Page for Mark Highum, CNSS Instructor- Bay College
I served on nuclear submarines for almost twenty years. I was proud to wear the silver dolphins of the Submarine Service on my uniform. One of the most important aspects of earning those dolphins is that it is not based solely on knowledge. Each submariner needed to prove that they could perform the complex tasks required for operation of the ship before they were qualified. Knowing how to do something is not the same as doing it. I have discovered that the civilian world is very similar. Employers don't want to hire someone who knows about
the job, they want someone who can do
the job. That is why each of the classes in the Technology Division focuses on doing work, and not just learning about it.
