Elizabeth Grugin-Soprano with String Quartet
Elizabeth Grugin is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan, where she received a degree in Voice Performance. While there, she participated in the University Choir and Orpheus Singers and performed as Gretel from Hansel and Gretel
and Carolina in Il matrimonio segreto
in Opera Workshop. Elizabeth also spent a year studying at Northern Michigan University, where she participated in the University Choir, Arts Chorale, and performed as Pamina from The Magic Flute
in Opera Workshop. She recently gave a recital at Reynolds Recital Hall on the campus of NMU.
In 2012, Elizabeth sang with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra during the annual Holiday concert and returned for an encore performance to the Kaufman stage in 2017 to sing Hanukkah Medley
once again. Elizabeth is also an accomplished cellist and has been a member of the MSO since high school. While at UM, she performed in the Philharmonic Campus Orchestra and numerous string quartets. Elizabeth has returned to Marquette for the year while she decides which graduate program to pursue – either cantorial school to become a Jewish Cantor, or voice performance, with the hopes of becoming a Professor of Voice.
While growing up in Marquette, Elizabeth was known not only for her choral and orchestra performances, but also for her many musical theatre roles. Favorite roles include Lilli Vanessi/Kate in Kiss Me, Kate
, Madame Thenardier in Les Miserables
, and Little Red Riding Hood in Into the Woods.
Although Elizabeth enjoys playing her cello, she also loves to play the piano and has an interest in composing. In May 2012, she conducted the premiere of her composition for string orchestra, Journey on the Night Sea
, and in 2014, the Marquette Senior High School Symphony Orchestra premiered her composition, Nocturnal Suite.
In her free time, Elizabeth studies geology and earth sciences. She also enjoys camping, hiking, and spending time outdoors. She is excited to perform at the Besse Center with her MSO colleagues.
