Last May, four Bay West employees attended the Consortium Michigan Veteran Workshop. The biggest impact of the workshop was hearing how veterans at other colleges appreciated having a place to call their own, a space that offers peace, quiet and the ability to refocus on their educational responsibilities.

The Bay College Foundation through a generous donation is establishing the ‘Bay FIRST Scholarship’ to award Bay College students in the Mechatronics/Robotics Systems field of study.

This year, Bay College had two state-level winners. Kayla Johnson’s “You Have a Right to Say No” was awarded the first-place prize of $150 in poetry. Nicholas Folcik’s “American Machines” claimed a second-place prize of $100 in the essay category.

Bay West LIFE was started in 2009 by a group of retirees to promote life-long learning and education in Dickinson County.  The group recently donated a $1,000 scholarship to assist two Bay College students at West Campus over the age of 50 for the Academic Year 2017-2018.

Bay College is working with Michigan Technological University to educate a highly skilled workforce in industrial robotics, a field in growing need of well-trained workers.  A new agreement between the community college and the university will enable students who earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in Mechatronics and Robotics Systems to transfer their credits into the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology program at Michigan Tech.
