The Delta-Schoolcraft Great Start Collaborative will be partnering with Bay College's Escanaba Campus Library and Literacy programming to bring a series of six Family Fun Nights to Bay College. The first event will be held on Thursday, October 1st
from 6:30 – 7:30 (EST) in the Bay College Library and will feature Bay's Early Childhood program with instructor, Connie Martinsen. The theme of the event will be “An Evening with a Very Hungry Caterpillar.”
These events are designed for families who have children 8 years old and younger. Each Family Fun night will features a storytime, movement activity, craft and a snack. Each family will also receive a free book.
Fun Nights are part of Great Start’s early literacy initiative which works to make sure children enter Kindergarten ready to learn and are reading proficiency by the time they enter 4th grade which gives them a great start in school and life. Parents play a critical role in their child's development and academic success.
Fun Nights bring families together to explore the library and ways to enjoy reading together. It is also a way for families to network and build community on campus. “Several Bay College students are also parents. Family Fun Nights give these students, as well as the public, an opportunity to share a positive literacy experience with their children on campus, as well as an opportunity to build positive associations with college from an early age,” says Bay College Literacy Specialist, Erica Mead.
The public is also welcome to see what Bay's Library has to offer with a free membership. The events are free and open to all families of students, staff and the public.
