Students from Bay College/LSSU Escanaba Regional Center’s chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA) attended the BPA State Leadership Conference and competed in a collegiate competition conducted at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, MI on February 14th
, 2015. BPA is a national organization focused on the professional and leadership development of students. Their core competitive program, Workplace Skills Assessment Program, allows chapter members to choose from a wide number of categories to compete in at the state and national level. At this conference, Bay/LSSU BPA members competed against students from the University of Michigan, Central Michigan University, Davenport University, and more.
Kathryn Capodilupo, a 2014 Bay College graduate and Junior at the LSSU Regional Center, took 1st place in the “Prepared Speech” event (a five to seven minute prepared speech). Kathryn is co-founder and President of the BPA chapter and plans to graduate with her Bachelor’s in Business Administration – Management in 2016. Kathryn was also Bay College’s Business Division Outstanding Graduate in 2014.
Jerri DeMenter, a Bay College student, placed 3rd
place in the “Prepared Speech” event. Jerri was recently selected by Bay College to be on the All USA Academic Team for the 2014/15 academic year. She is also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, a TRiO mentor, and a TRiO math tutor; she maintains a 4.0 GPA.
By placing in the top 3 for their event, both members have earned a spot at the BPA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California in May, where they will compete in the same event at the national level.
Other members attending the event were Jessica Rudden, a Bay College business student who competed in the Fundamental Word Processing competition, and Jessica Fernandez, a LSSU Escanaba Regional student who competed in the Financial Math and Analysis Concepts competition.
