Outstanding Staff Winners 2017
Bay College honored its 2017 Outstanding Staff during an awards banquet that was held on April 18. Any Bay College employee, Board member, student, alumni, or community member may nominate a full-time or regular part-time exempt or non-exempt employee for the Bay College Outstanding Staff Award. These individuals must have completed three years of employment at Bay College. Nominees are judged by their job knowledge; respect and enthusiasm toward colleagues, students, and community members; creating a positive influence within the work environment; collaboratively working with colleagues and staff.

The 2017 Outstanding Staff are as follows:
Josh Blumensaadt
Josh Blumensaadt was hired in November 2011 working as a Technical Support Specialist at the West Campus. Two years later, he transitioned to his current role - Coordinator of Campus User Technology. Josh has an Associate of Arts degree in Education and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Systems Technology. Both of his degrees were earned at Bay College.

Josh was nominated for this award not only for the level of professionalism that he demonstrates each and every day, but also for his ability to remain flexible and calm when resolving our colleague’s and student’s IT needs. He is able to prioritize existing projects with incoming requests and is always making contributions to the daily operations of the college. One of Josh’s student employees stated “I learn every single day that I work with Josh. He goes out of his way to make sure I understand what I am doing, and why it fixes the issue. Josh places priority on every issue, and gets the job done, all while remaining stress free and friendly to all, and that is a trait that I hope to follow after I earn my degree.”

Justin Izzard, Director of IT stated “I have been fortunate to work closely with Josh since he was hired in 2011, and we would be hard pressed to find someone as committed to this institution as he is. Josh invests his time and energy in understanding the needs of our customers as well as every piece of technology that he has rolled out. He is passionate about connecting with people to ensure the highest level of service is provided, and receiving this award demonstrates his success in doing so.”

Lynn Martinson
Lynn Martinson was hired in October 2005 as the Accounts Receivable Coordinator and continued to assume higher levels of responsibility in the Business Office and is currently a Senior Accountant.  Lynn holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business from Bay College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Lake Superior State University and will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Lake Superior State University.

Lynn was nominated for this award because of her attitude and work ethic. A quote from a colleague states, “Lynn’s interactions are always positive and done in the spirit of teamwork.” About six years ago, the College converted to a new software system, and Lynn was instrumental in the conversion process of Business Office records.  Also, Lynn became a right-hand assistant to Ann Valiquette, Director of the Business Office, with the financial audit for the year end June 30, 2012.  Lynn demonstrated great knowledge and concern for the financial condition of the College, and was extremely conscientiousness of the information presented to auditors, which resulted in a clean audit opinion.

When Lynn became Senior Accountant, she assumed the role of the Foundation Accountant, taking a lead role in the Foundation’s annual financial audit.  She meets with Foundation Board members to understand the investment and spending requirements of the Foundation. “Lynn is always supportive with questions and sharing her knowledge and information as appropriate. She is a great asset to the College and Foundation.”
Lynn is cross-trained in other areas of the Business Office as well, including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable and purchasing. While Lynn has a lot on her plate, she always maintains a positive attitude and a smile on her face.
