Students can now complete their Associate in Applied Science in Business degree 100% online through Bay College. In this online program, students will take courses in a variety of business disciplines, including economics, accounting, management, business law, and marketing. There is also an opportunity for eligible students to complete an internship or co-op to earn credits and gain real-world experience.
An online program offers many benefits to students who are working, commute to campus, or have family needs. Classes can be accessed at any time of any day, creating flexibility that allows them to work around their busy schedules. The convenience of online courses provides an opportunity for people to begin or complete a degree when they may not have had the option before.
For its online courses, Bay College utilizes Blackboard Learn, the leading learning management system available in the industry. Through Blackboard, there are many tools that make student/teacher interactions easier, such as discussion boards, messages, journals, and blog features. Bay College is also a member of Quality Matters, a non-profit organization that uses peer review teams to certify online courses for quality assurance. Many of the current online courses have already been verified by Quality Matters teams, and there are also certified Quality Matters instructors on campus.
Today, the online environment is not just book work and text assignments. New technologies are enhancing the interactions that take place in the online classroom, making the experience feel more personal. Instructors are utilizing tools like video recordings, voice recordings, and screen captures for instructional purposes and to provide valuable feedback. Students are challenged to use tools like YouTube, LinkedIn, and Zoom to create and upload videos, connect with each other, and give presentations in real-time.
The goal of Ann Sebeck, an all-online instructor, is to reduce the technical burden on students by utilizing user-friendly tools. “Technology is constantly evolving,” Sebeck says. “The various techniques we can use for interaction with students are endless, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for online learning.”
An Associate in Applied Science degree in Business opens the door to many entry level careers in sales, marketing, finance, management, economics, and more. The degree could also be used as a stepping stone for students to continue their education in other business related fields.
