Starting this fall semester, Bay College West will be able to offer its students the opportunity to complete a welding certificate, entirely in Dickinson County.
For some time, Bay West has been offering a number of welding classes, but was unable to offer the entire program as they were lacking facilities and equipment to offer TECH 100, Basic Machine Tool Operation. That all changed this spring, when the DIISD was able to move equipment around, providing space, and Bay College West was able to purchase additional lathes and surface grinders to complete the equipment needed to run the class. CTE Director Michael Mulligan shared, “We are excited to host the machinery necessary to offer the Basic Machine Tool class. The addition of the Bay College class is a great opportunity for Tech Center Graduates to continue their education after High School.”
The welding certificate program provides instruction in the areas of Oxy-Fuel, MIG, TIG, Arc and Advanced Arc welding, and rounds out the program with classes such as blueprint reading and machine tool operation. Kevin Carlson, VP of Bay College West states, “The welding program at Bay College West Campus is an excellent opportunity for students to receive their certificate and help fill the needs for welders both inside and outside of the area.” Students will also have the opportunity to receive certifications in the MIG and Advanced Arc welding classes.
Registration has already begun for the fall semester and seats are filling quickly. Anyone interested in learning more about Bay West’s welding program, please call (906)302-3000.
