Exploration of Early Jazz with The MSO Dixieland All-Stars!
Bay College is thrilled to announce the Marquette Symphony Orchestra Series is returning on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 7:30 pm in the Besse Center Theater with Exploration of Early Jazz with the MSO Dixieland All-Stars!
 
2017 marks 100 years of recorded jazz (beginning with the classic recordings made by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band in 1917), and The Marquette Symphony Orchestra (MSO) Dixieland All-Stars are ready to celebrate!  This concert will feature classic repertoire as recorded by some of the most important early jazz ensembles, including The Original Dixieland Jazz Band, King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band, The New Orleans Rhythm Kings, Jelly Roll Morton’s Red Hot Peppers, and Louis Armstrong’s Hot 5.  Dr. Mark Flaherty, Professor of Music at NMU, will explain the origins of this great American art form and describe the basic characteristics of this music during the 1920s—the Jazz Age.

Tickets may be purchased at the Box office or on our website at www.baycollege.edu/tickets  Box office hours are 8:00 – 4:30, Mon - Fri. Box office and doors open at 7 pm on day of performance. $10.00 for General Admission and $5.00 for Students/Faculty/Staff.
