marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) give civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. The ADA and ADAAA also assure equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities for access to businesses, employment, transportation, state and local government programs and services, and telecommunications.
In keeping with the principles of the ADA, Bay College in its commitment to provide access to materials and information has purchased some state-of-the art equipment. For students and members of the public the college now has some enlarged print keyboards, a portable HD desktop magnifier, a computer compatible portable electronic magnifier, and a high performance desktop video magnifier (CCTV), featuring Full HD and text-to-speech (OCR).
The Bay College Library is also recognizing the anniversary by creating a display highlighting the numerous items in its collection related to accessibility and disabilities. Materials are free to check out of the Bay College Library as are other movies, books, etc., to anyone with a picture id.
