Predictors of Student Success

Presenter for Topology, Matt BarronBay College’s winter 2015 Math Science Colloquia series wraps up with a free presentation at 4PM on Thursday, April 16 in room MS122 (with iTV link to West Campus room 107).   Dr. Matt Barron, Bay College Dean of Arts and Sciences will present research on predictors of student success, with ample time for discussion of the results.  First Barron will present analysis showing how student’s age, college readiness in reading, writing, and math, and socio-economic status impact their success.   Then he will explore how college initiatives expanding tutoring, offering supplemental instruction, and mandatory placement in reading, writing, and math classes have impacted student success. 

Following the discussion plan to attend the Celebration of Student Success. This four-part event provides students with an opportunity to exhibit their academic achievements through a variety of multimedia expressions.  The Student Art Show begins at 3:30 p.m. in the North Gallery of the Besse Center.   The 2nd Annual Student Poster Symposium begins at 4 p.m. in the CafĂ© Bay of the Student Center.  The Student Serendipity Night will take place at 7 p.m. in the Besse Center Theater.  These events are all open to the public and free of charge.
