Jason Limberg is a visual artist who, from the start, has identified with the simple act of drawing. From his childhood of rendering comic book characters, to his current work that strives to illustrate his fascination with the natural world, drawing has always been the backbone of Jason’s art. Limberg’s work has been exhibited at galleries in the Upper Peninsula, Milwaukee, Chicago, New York, and Italy. His greatest ambition is to convey a sense of mystery, intimacy, and intrigue through the use of pen & ink work done by his left hand.
Illuminated Whispers. Night. Animals. Atmosphere. Time(less). These are the things that both enthrall and elude me. Trying to capture these obsessions in small, intimate, detailed drawings is where my passion lies. Whether it’s a bison carrying a lantern, or a loon playing his haunting melody on a phonograph, it’s this vivid imagery that pushes me to create. When rendering a drawing I visually study every detail of a subject, as well as immerse myself in books, documentaries and lectures to gain more insight on the animal’s nature. I am not compelled to represent the natural world in a realistic or straightforward manner. I let the soul of an animal, paired with my imagination, drive my work. Simply bringing light to those faint, fleeting moments deep in the woods.
