Congratulations to Britt Slade and Spencer Slade, Bay College's quarterly September – November 2017 TORCH Award winners. Britt Slade and Spencer Slade are both Math instructors at Bay College. Together, they are recognized for their work as noted in the following:

Britt and Spencer Slade were nominated for this award because they are a wonderful team as co-workers. An example of that is they both work with the local schools, on Bay’s behalf. They have been connecting with the area high school math instructors for years, creating relationships, offering help with math curriculum, as well as making sure the high schools are aware of what Bay College expects our incoming student’s knowledge regarding their math skills. They work hard to create those connective relationships, and are always thinking of the best interest of the student. Most importantly, they do this for Bay College, not just for the Escanaba Campus, not for the West Campus, but for the entire College and the surrounding community to increase the math preparedness, regardless of where that students attends after high school. They now have a new avenue for their outreach since they have children; daycare centers! They have a connection to GreatStart! and share information about appropriate events with GreatStart! personnel, as well as area daycare providers. Britt and Spencer’s actions are great examples of the meaning of the TORCH award in many ways!

The purpose of the TORCH Award is to give personal recognition to those employees on Bay College’s campuses dedicated to the mission of the College because of their attitude, commitment, and dedication toward the higher education learning environment. TORCH stands for: Team Player; Outstanding Performance; Responsive to Others; Conscientious to Mission of Bay; Helpful to All. For one of these areas, or for one specific event or circumstance, please summarize how your nominee has shown the identified characteristic(s) while performing their job and, if applicable, how did their actions/attitude impact your job area. This award is given to one employee on a quarterly basis. Nominations will be accepted from employees, students and the community.
