205                 HIRING HOURLY EMPLOYEES POLICY 

PROCEDURE: 

205.1 Discuss the position with your supervisor to ensure that the position is budgeted for and that the position fits into the college’s long-range staffing plan. 

205.2  Write a PDQ for a new position or review the existing description and job title. Ensure the position has been evaluated by Human Resources for job classification and meets pertinent standards and pay ranges for that position. 

205.3  Write a job vacancy announcement that includes: 

a. Deadline for application

b. Name of contact person

c. Work schedule

d. Qualifications for the position

e. Indication whether the position is regular or temporary

f. Funding agency if appropriate

g. Summary of duties (position description)  

205.4  If candidates from within the college are to be considered for job openings, Human Resources will post the position via e-mail and by memo to all regular full and part-time employees.  This internal posting will be active for five (5) working days.   

205.5  If the job is advertised externally, Human Resources will ensure that job notices are sent to all appropriate referral sources in compliance with equal opportunity employment guidelines. 

205.6  Applicants are evaluated against a point system weighted for the various areas of responsibility. 

205.7  Those having the highest evaluation are selected for an interview.  Select those who appear to be qualified for the position and follow-up to determine if an interview is required.   

205.8  Check references before making final choice.   

205.9  Contact your top candidate and offer him/her the position.   

205.10 Human Resources will write a letter to the top applicant offering him/her the      position and specifying the rate of pay.  

205.11 Human Resources will notify all unsuccessful applicants. 

205.12 When the final candidate has been selected and approved for hire, return all  applicant materials to Human Resources.  

205.13 Human Resources will provide proper orientation for the employee regarding pay periods, benefits and other information of interest to the employee.  HR will ensure that all appropriate tax and insurance forms are completed and delivered by the new employee to the Business Office.
