BAY de NOC COMMUNITY COLLEGE PERSONNEL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Originator: Board of Trustees Revision Date: Subject: Work Areas 601 SAFETY POLICY It shall be the policy of the Bay de Noc Community College Board of Trustees to provide healthy and safe conditions for students, staff and visitors of the college. The college shall abide by and enforce all safety and health regulations as set forth by federal, state and local governments. Employees shall comply with all safety and health requirements whether established by management or by federal, state or local law.
PROCEDURE: All college employees, students and visitors are expected to use good safety and health practices as dictated by job, location and circumstances. 601.2 Operation of Vehicles Drivers and passengers shall use lap and shoulder belts when driving or riding in college vehicles that are equipped with these devices. Vehicles are to be operated in a safe manner consistent with weather and road conditions. Operating or riding college-owned vehicles or equipment in an unsafe manner is grounds for disciplinary action. 601.3 Clothing Employees working in or around moving or electrically hazardous equipment should not wear loose fitting clothing, necklaces, watches, rings, bracelets, scarves, or any other type of clothing or jewelry that could become entangled in or catch on such equipment or cause electrical shock. 601.4 Safety Glasses All employees are required to wear industrial safety glasses when involved in work, which could cause an eye injury. The industrial safety glasses must be worn whenever an employee is: a. In the college garages.b. Welding, hammering, sawing, cutting, digging, or handling materials or chemicals. c. In close proximity to the above listed duties. d. In the storage area of the college stockroom. e. Whenever the job duties involve a danger of eye injury. f. Teachers shall wear safety glasses and are responsible for making sure students and visitors wear safety glasses when eye hazard exists in shops and labs. The college will provide safety glasses for all employees and visitors. In the event a full-time employee needs prescription safety glasses, the college will provide $20 toward the purchase of same. This $20 payment will not be paid more than once every four years. 601.5 Clear Halls exits and Walkways Nothing can block hallways, walkways or exits. Three (3) feet of clear access must be maintained by fire exits and electrical panels. 601.6 Lifting Assistance should be elicited when lifting or lowering items that are heavy or on high shelves. 601.7 Reporting Accidents It is the responsibility of all employees to report any accident that involves personal injury or damage to college property and to report unsafe conditions to their supervisor. 601.8 Filing Cabinets No more than one filing drawer at a time should be open. 601.9 Unplugging Equipment Equipment that could become hazardous if accidentally turned on should be unplugged. |
