 604                 SMOKE-FREE ENVIRONMENT POLICY

It shall be the policy of the Bay de Noc Community College Board of Trustees to provide a healthy, comfortable and productive environment for students, faculty and staff, in compliance with Act. No. 198 of the Public Acts of 1986.

PROCEDURE:

604.1  A person shall not smoke or use other forms of tobacco in college facilities beginning June 7, 1993.

604.2  Every building shall have a designated smoking area outside the building, except where prohibited by law or by the College for safety reasons.

604.3  Signs shall be posted on every entrance to every college facility stating, “the college is a tobacco free environment.”

604.4  The use of smokeless tobacco is prohibited in college facilities.

604.5  Cigarettes will not be sold on College premises.

604.6  Complaint procedure: The success of this policy will depend upon the thoughtfulness, consideration and cooperation of smokers and nonsmokers.  All students and employees share in the responsibility for adhering to and enforcing the policy.  Complaints about infractions should be brought to the attention of the Vice President for Administrative Services and, if necessary, referred to the President for a final decision.
