INFECTION CONTROL
POLICY PROCEDURE: It shall be the procedure that in courses where students have contact with bodily fluids, (such as urine, blood and saliva) or with pathogenic lab specimens, the instructor shall: 605.1 Instruct the students on proper hand washing technique. 605.2 Instruct students to inspect their hands and forearms for breaks in skin integrity, for example, cuts, abrasions, cracks, dermatitis, rashes, acne, cold sores. 605.3 Instruct students with open, draining lesions that such areas should be covered prior to coming to class. 605.4 Instruct students with breaks in skin integrity to wear clean, plastic gloves when in contact with such substances, and to wash their hands appropriately after disposing of the gloves. 605.5 Instruct students about when the wearing of gloves and other protective clothing is essential. 605.6 Provide plastic gloves for all students who need or desire them, or see that the facility where the students are affiliating makes such gloves available. 605.7 Instruct students of the dangers of touching other open areas of their skin or their mouths with contaminated hands. 605.8 Instruct students that it is their responsibility each class period to inspect their hands and other exposed areas of their body for breaks in skin integrity, to wear and dispose of gloves appropriately, and to wash their hands thoroughly after exposure. |
