TASKS WHICH MAY RESULT IN BIO-HAZARD EXPOSURE

 1.         Direct patient care situations: 

            A.        Starting or discontinuing intravenous infusions.

B.        Parenteral (subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous) injections, fluid instillation, irrigations, or other procedures resulting in splashback.

            C.        Dressing changes, care of patient with skin lesions or open wounds.

            D.        Linen changes with soiled or contaminated linen.

            E.        Collection, handling and transporting of regulated lab specimens.

F.         Assisting patients who have nose bleeds, bloody sputum, or other blood-tinged body fluids. 

2.         First aid situations: 

            A.        Assisting people with open wounds.

B.        Assisting people who have blood-tinged sputum, vomitus, or other body fluids. 

3.         Housekeeping/maintenance situations: 

            A.        Cleaning up accidental body fluid spills, in which visible blood is present.

B.        Cleaning up tissue, feminine hygiene products or other materials, in which visible blood is present.
