801                 BEHAVIOR OF EMPLOYEES POLICY

It shall be the policy of the Bay de Noc Community College Board of Trustees that certain rules and regulations regarding employee behavior are necessary for the efficient operation of the college and for the benefit and safety of all employees.  Conduct that interferes with operations, discredits the college, or is offensive to students or fellow employees will not be tolerated.

PROCEDURE:

801.1    All employees are expected to conduct themselves and behave in a manner which is conducive to the efficient operation of the college.  Such conduct includes: 

a)     reporting to work punctually as scheduled and being at the proper work station ready for work at the assigned starting time;

b)     notifying the supervisor in advance when the employee will be absent or is unable to report for work on time;

c)      complying with all college safety regulations;

d)    smoking only at times and in places not prohibited by college rules;

e)    maintaining work place and work area cleanliness and orderliness;

f)       treating all students, visitors, and fellow employees in a courteous manner;

g)    refraining from behavior or conduct deemed offensive or undesirable or which is subject to disciplinary action;

h)     performing assigned tasks efficiently and in accord with established quality standards.

801.2  The following conduct is prohibited and will subject the individual involved to disciplinary action up to and including termination: 

a)     reporting to work under the influence of alcoholic beverages and/or illegal drugs, narcotics, or the use, sale, dispensing, or possession of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs and narcotics on the college premises;

b)     the use of profanity or abusive language;

c)      possession of firearms or other weapons on college property;

d)    insubordination or the refusal of an employee to follow management’s instructions concerning a job-related matter;

e)     fighting or assault on a fellow employee or student;

f)       theft, destruction, debasement, or misuse of college property or of another employee’s property;

g)     gambling on college property;

h)      falsifying or altering any college report or record such as an application, medical report, time record, expense account, or shipping and receiving records;

i)       threatening or intimidating management supervisors or fellow workers;

j)        failure to wear assigned safety equipment or failure to abide by safety rules and policies;

k)      improper attire or inappropriate personal appearance;

l)        engaging in any form of sexual harassment and violation of the policies on solicitation or distribution;

m)  conviction of a crime when the nature of the crime diminishes the employee’s ability to perform their duties.

801.3  The examples in 801.2 are illustrative of the type of behavior that will not be permitted but are not intended to be all-inclusive.  Any questions in connection with this policy should be directed to the President.
