804                 PERSONAL FINANCES POLICY

It shall be the policy of the Bay de Noc Community College Board of Trustees to honor writs of garnishment or attachments of wages as required by law.

PROCEDURE:

804.1  Whenever the college is served with a writ of garnishment or attachment, a notice of levy by the Internal Revenue Service or other taxing authority or any other similar order requiring payment of a portion of the employee’s compensation to someone other than the employee, the recipient must immediately refer the matter to the business office for appropriate action.  Failure to act promptly may expose the college to legal liability.

804.2  In the event that garnishment or similar proceedings are instituted against an employee, the college will deduct the required amount from the employee’s paycheck.  The amount deducted from the employee’s earnings will not exceed that permitted by law.
