General Description:
The Adjunct (Part-time) Nursing Instructor is a position that reports to the Dean of Allied Health & Wellness. The primary responsibility is the instruction of practical and associate degree nursing students in theory, lab, and clinical settings. The opening available requires teaching a combination of courses related to adult health nursing, obstetrics and pediatrics.
Specific Responsibilities:
Instruct courses in lecture, lab, and clinical nursing through the use of appropriate learning experiences that provide the opportunity to meet overall course objectives and program goals.
Create a classroom environment conducive to the development of critical thinking, critical reading skills, and communication skills.
Actively support student success through counseling, advising and assisting individual and groups of students as needed.
Provide assistance and leadership to part-time faculty who are teaching specified nursing courses.
Participate in professional activities such as, but not limited to, curriculum planning, syllabus writing, examination development, textbook selection, program revision, and outcome assessment.
Maintain an active program of professional development related to professional and institutional needs.
Maintain positive communication with affiliating health care agencies, peers, students and college personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Master's preferred
Current Michigan or Wisconsin Registered Nursing licensure or eligibility for licensure
Equivalent of three years full-time successful work experience in registered nursing
Excellent interpersonal skills
Demonstrated skill in effective written and oral communication
Ability to assist nursing students in clinic with the delivery of patient care
Clinical competency in two areas of nursing
Computer literacy
Commitment to quality instruction in a learner-centered environment
Commitment to the community college philosophy, and to practical and associate degree nursing
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Clinical competence in several areas of nursing, such as, medical-surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, community health, home nursing, or geriatrics.
Teaching experience, especially teaching practical and associate degree nursing students.
Successful experience working with at-risk students.
Familiarity with active and collaborative learning strategies, teaching of critical thinking and critical literacy skills.
Willingness and ability to travel to placement sites.
Flexibility and creativity in relationship to the changing role or nurses today.
