Barrier Free
Bay College follows section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, as well as the ADA (American with Disbilities Act).
Both federal laws promote:
Eliminating barriers to independence because of a person's disability
Prohibiting discrimination for a qualified student because of their disability
Providing a student with disability reasonable accommodations to ensure classroom success
Remember: A student has to request support services. This is not automatically provided.
Necessary Documentation Information At the college level it is each student's responsibility to self-identify needs for their particular accommodation. This is done by first completing the required paperwork. At that time a discussion will take place with the Director of Student Success.
Verbal requests have to be followed up by valid documentation to activate this no-cost service. Documentation can be from MI Rehab Services, Vet Voc Rehab, MI Commission for the Blind, ISD's High School IEP's or a letter from a medical doctor.
