Full-Time Employee Benefits

Eligibility for benefits is based on your job group, your appointment percentage and the length of your appointment.


Retirement Plan

The College offers two plans through the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System which includes a 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan with 4 years vesting or a Pension Plus plan with 10 years vesting.

For eligible employees, the college also offers a generous contribution to salaried and full-time faculty employees for the 401(a) Optional Retirement Plan, with the option to save more through a 403(b) Supplemental Retirement Account (SRA) via TIAA.


Health Insurance

As an employee, you have immediate access to health insurance and prescription drug coverage beginning on your first day of employment. The college regularly reviews all plans to ensure quality and value.

Bay College offers a choice among several plans and plan types, including a high health deductible plan option which can also be paired with a Health Savings Account (HSA). Coverage also is available for dependents who meet age and other guidelines.

Employees also have the opportunity to pair some plans with a pre-tax healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

All health plans include a Prescription Saver Rx Plan. The plan offers a nationwide network of retail pharmacies, as well as a convenient mail order service with reduced copays.

Bay College offers $2,100 annual opt out should someone have other health insurance through their spouse or another employer


Dental Plan

Dental coverage is offered to eligible employees through SETSEG (School Insurance Specialists) with no premium cost for the employee. As a plan participant, you receive $1,000 per individual annual maximum benefit. Major care is covered at 80%. Preventative care coverage is tiered for the first – third years of employment ranging from 80% to 100% coverage.  Plan is administered through SETSEG and ADN Administrators processes the dental claims. The College’s plan is self-funded, meaning that any dentist can be in-network. There is a discount on claims should one use a dentist who is in-network with ADN. Coverage also is available for dependents who meet age and other guidelines.


Vision Plan

Vision coverage is offered to eligible staff through EyeMed with no premium cost for the employee. As a plan participant, you receive one FREE eye examination, $0 copay on standard lenses or contact lenses, and $100 frame benefit every year. Coverage also is available for dependents who meet age and other guidelines.


Workplace Health and Well-being

Bay College is a workplace where healthy living is encouraged and supported. The Bay College Wellness program focus is for faculty and staff to be at their best—physically, mentally and emotionally.

A FREE Northern Lights YMCA membership is offered to all eligible staff with the option to extend to dependents for a discounted fee.

Tuition Waiver

The Tuition Waiver program provides the opportunity for eligible employees and their eligible dependents the ability to continue their education at Bay College. Each semester, eligible employees and their eligible dependents may receive exemption from the payment of tuition for credit classes that are offered at Bay College. In addition, fees, which generate revenue, (registration, technology and assessment) will also be waived.

Time Away from Work

Generous paid time off for vacation, holidays, and sick time, as well as a modified summer schedule. The amount of time you accrue is based on your position and length of service.

The College recognizes the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day and the following day
  • Christmas Day and the preceding day
  • Floating Holiday (determined by College President)

Starting at the end of May through July, employees work longer days on Monday – Thursday, and have Friday off.
