Richard Sgarlotti is an adjunct instructor in mathematics at Bay college West in Iron Mountain. Sgarlotti has been employed at Bay since 1998 and has taught most of the basic mathematics class, introduction to technical mathematics, and business mathematics. He was also employed in several public schools previous to and during employment at Bay. He holds B.S. and MA degrees from Michigan State University and an Educational Specialist degree from Northern Michigan University. He is currently national director of Educators of Native American Students, an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and has directed dozens of STEM camps for Native American students, and many mathematics education workshops for teachers throughout the United States and Canada. Sgarlotti also produced the volume, "Creating a Sacred Place for Students in Mathematics" published by the National Indian School Boards Association.
