Musical Theater Returns to Bay College with The Wizard of Oz
For generations, the journey of Dorothy along the Yellow Brick Road with some unlikely friends of tin, straw, and a timid carnivorous feline has delighted our hearts and minds. Through Dorothy's search for community, Tin Man's quest for a heart, Scarecrow's need for smarts, and Lion's fixation on courage, we all see ourselves a bit in our own personal quests, challenges, and resolutions.
Marking its 80th anniversary, The Wizard of Oz is widely considered to be one of the best films in cinematic history, an iconic fixture of American pop culture, and celebrated for its affirming message that home is truly where the heart is.
Culminating from months of planning and research, Bay College is proud to honor the 80th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz with a community theater adaptation in 2019. With any community theater endeavor, our faithful adaptation of The Wizard of Oz seeks local talent from actors ages 8 to adult, welcoming those with different experience levels, even little to none. Bay College students are encouraged to participate as well. The production welcomes participation from community members interested in helping with a variety of roles, from set design and construction, costumes, makeup and more. Sponsorship opportunities will be available during this exciting endeavor, with each gift facilitating that the production achieves the desired technical complexity we know and expect (flying monkeys)!
This family-friendly musical, directed by Jamie Peterson with musical direction by Travis Dubord, will take Bay College by storm starting with auditions in mid-August, followed by rehearsals in September and October, and culminating in performances November 1 through November 9, 2019. Through this production, Bay College is demonstrating its on-going commitment to the arts, which combined with our stellar academics and athletics programs, truly shows there's "no place like Bay College."
