Bay College Announces "BAYMAZING" Open House

Bay College is excited to announce a “BAYMAZING” opportunity for community members, including alumni, families, students, employees and area business leaders to get more acquainted with their community college! On Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 11 AM to 2 PM, we invite you to explore campus during the BAYMAZING Community Open House, a self-guided “maze” for the masses guaranteeing engaging and family-friendly fun at every stop.

Much like a scavenger hunt, guests will embark on a maze throughout campus using either mobile technology or on paper to explore a variety of faculty and student-led interactive stations for a fun experience like no other. Activities planned in agriculture technology, biology, business, chemistry, criminal justice, early childhood, film, geography, mechatronics, robotics, physics and more will be appropriate for all ages.

 You might check your vital signs or learn how to be a health care provider on one of our “SIMS;” use a real apple press to make cider while learning about the chemistry of different apple varieties and sample your work; make some sparks with our welding equipment; see how robots and drones work or take your picture for points by the Norse mascot or your favorite set of wheels in the car show. For art enthusiasts, the original Wizard of Oz film will be shown in the Besse Theater at 2 PM and a special Wizard of Oz themed art exhibit will be displayed in the Besse Gallery. For younger guests, laser tag and video games will also be offered in the Joseph Heirman University Center with the library dedicated to a variety of hands-on early childhood development activities.

With each mission guaranteeing an educational, hands-on experience fun for all ages, abilities, and interests, guests will come away from the event with a greater understanding of Bay College’s outstanding academic programs, cutting-edge technology, and available community resources.

“As your community college, our doors are always open, but Open House is yet another opportunity to welcome the community to campus to showcase the many ways Bay College is changing lives and enriching the community,” says Dr. Laura Coleman, Bay College President.  

“Whether you are a college student, thinking about starting or continuing college for professional or intellectual development, or perhaps have a child to entertain and educate, our BAYMAZING Open House is a great way to see what new and exciting programs Bay College offers, meet some of our faculty and staff, sit in on a mock class, participate in hair-raising demonstrations (literally), games, contests and more.”

This drop – in event is entirely free and no registration is required. Guests may enter through either the Besse or JHUC entrances where assistance will be provided to download the digital maze or to pick up a paper version. A light lunch will be provided at no charge from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM while supplies last.
