LSSU’s Escanaba/Iron Mountain Regional Center Announces Spring 2020 Graduates

Eleven area residents have successfully completed their requirements for a bachelor’s degree and graduated following the Spring (January) 2020 semester from Lake Superior State University (LSSU).

Graduating with a bachelor’s of science in accounting with the 150-credit hour certified public accountant track are Stephanie Flynn (Menominee) and Christina Kwarciany (Bark River). Flynn also completed the 150-credit hour certified public accountant track.

Graduating with a bachelor’s of science in business administration are Kent Dubord (Escanaba), Katie King (Bark River), Alec Langer (Norway), Kellie Sexton (Iron Mountain), and Madeline Smith (LaCrosse, WI); Dubord and Langer also minored in marketing; King and Smith also minored in international business; and Sexton minored in human resource management and a management concentration.

Graduating with a bachelor’s of science in criminal justice with a generalist concentration and corrections minor is Erika LaFoille (Marquette).

Graduating with a bachelor’s of science in early childhood education is Cynthia Levin (Manistique). Levin also graduated with an associate degree in general studies with a behavioral science concentration.

Graduating with a bachelor’s of science general studies with concentrations in business and behavioral sciences is Heather Wentworth (Escanaba).

Graduating with a bachelor’s of science in nursing is Alexis Murray (Escanaba).

Kwarciany and Murray graduated Summa Cum Laude, earning a 3.90-4.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale; King graduated Magna Cum Laude earning a 3.70-3.89 cumulative GPA; and Dubord, Flynn, Levin and Sexton graduated with Cum Laude honors, earning a 3.50-3.69 GPA.

Sexton said, “I am appreciative for the instructors and administrators at both Bay College and LSSU. With their guidance and support, I was able earn my degree while working full time in Iron Mountain and be home every night with my family. The convenience of the regional center and the collaboration of the two schools made my journey easy and affordable.”

Langer added, “At every point in my academic career the administrative staff and instructors I had were extraordinarily eager to see me succeed and made it a personal goal in their own lives to help accommodate my success!”

Murray quoted Kelly Osbourne and stated, “If you haven’t felt like quitting, your dreams aren’t big enough!”

While LSSU’s commencement was postponed due to COVID-19, a celebration of the graduates was held on Facebook with individual pictures posted May 11 - 15. Personal congratulations can be posted to graduates via LSSU’s Facebook page.
