Bay College announces the completion of the June Nurse Aide (NA) training program. The group of eight students successfully completed their training on June 24, 2021, and are preparing to take their certification exam to become Certified Nurse Aides (CNA’s) in the coming months.

Students in the June NA program represented a diverse group. Two of the students are high school seniors getting a head start in their healthcare careers, four are currently employed in long-term care and are sponsored by their employers, and the other students will use their newly acquired skills when they enter nursing school in the fall.

Christy Mathias RN, Bay’s Nurse Aide trainer, knows from experience that working as a Nurse Aide is hard but rewarding work.  She encourages her students to gain the valuable work experience as a CNA before enrolling into a formal nursing program. “Teagan is planning on a PA program and will use the patient care experience to reach that goal” stated Christy.  “Our CNA’s know the importance of earning a credential and are committed to the field. I am so proud of them!”.

Bay’s Nurse Aide training program prepares students to work in nursing assistant positions in both Michigan and Wisconsin. The 3-week, 96-hour training is designed for individuals looking to increase their skillset in a short amount of time and upon completion offers many employment opportunities. The program includes intensive lecture and lab, a clinical component, and a state exam preparation.

Upon successful completion of the program, students can apply for their certification by taking the nationally recognized standardized nurse aide competency exam through Prometric for the State of Michigan, and will be listed on the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Registry.

Bay College offers Nurse Aide training year-round, and the next class is scheduled to begin on August 2nd. For more information on becoming a Nurse Aide, please visit our Certified Nursing Assistant webpage or call Renee Lundberg, Workforce Training Manager, at 906-217-4224.
