Midsummer Medley Upcoming Concert at Bay

News

Bay de Noc Community College’s summer music series Strings on the Bay presents flutist Emily Olson, violinist Dan Foster, and pianist Robert Conway in a concert entitled “Midsummer Medley” on Tuesday, June 28, at 7:00PM EST.  Please note that this is a new starting time for the concert series, so don’t be late!  The concert will be held at the Besse Center Theater at the College, 2001 N. Lincoln Road.

The music for this program is quite varied in style, from a baroque trio sonata by one of J. S. Bach’s many sons, Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach, to a pair of tangos by Astor Piazzolla, a set of variations on an English folk song by Ethel Smyth, short pieces by Russian Cesar Cui and French composer Melanie Bonis and, just in time for fourth of July celebrations, a thrilling finale based on American themes by Franz Doppler.  This is a fast-paced concert that keeps everyone engaged and on the edge of their seats.

Dan Foster is the professor of violin at Eastern Michigan University and holds degrees from the University of Illinois.  Emily Olson has degrees from the Ohio State University and the University of Michigan.  Her 20+ year career in southeast Michigan has seen her as a regular performer with many orchestras in the area.  She has also been an administrator for several arts organizations.  She is also currently involved in music therapy.  Here she acts as a therapeutic bedside musician through the Music for Healing & Transition Program.  This allows her to connect with patients at Arbor Hospice and the University of Michigan Health System through the gift of music.  Robert Conway is an associate professor of piano at Wayne State University, where he is also the director of the piano area.  Since 1989, he has performed regularly as orchestral keyboardist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has been a soloist with them on several occasions.

Tickets are available on the College website [www.baycollege.tix.com] and at the door. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for students, and $30.00 for a three-concert bundle (add all three event tickets to cart and then, enter code 3for30 at checkout).
