Announcing the Bay College 2023 Outstanding Staff Awards

Bay College honored its 2023 Outstanding Staff during an awards banquet that was held on April 20.  Any Bay College employee, Board member, student, alumni, or community member may nominate a full-time or regular part-time exempt or non-exempt employee for the Bay College Outstanding Staff Award.  These individuals must have completed three years of employment at Bay College.  Nominees are judged by their job knowledge; respect and enthusiasm toward colleagues, students, and community members; creating a positive influence within the work environment; collaboratively working with colleagues and staff.

The 2023 Outstanding Staff are as follows:

Sarah Davy

Sarah Davy, recipient of the 2023 Outstanding Staff award at Bay College

Sarah was hired in July 2019 as the Academic Support Coordinator for the West Campus.  Sarah holds a Master’s of Public Administration degree from Northern Michigan University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Sarah’s focus is student success, and it is evident in her interactions with students, staff, and faculty.  As an Academic Support Coordinator, Sarah works directly with students, connecting them with both college and local resources aiding in their academic success.  She also works with Business Technology and TRiO Students, supporting them in their individualized career plans and or the completion of their chosen degree path.  Sarah is always kind, helpful and caring in her communications with others.  She has a calming demeaner that makes others feel comfortable and cared for and when dealing with personal concerns, she does so calmly and reassuringly.  Sarah is proactive and works to ensure students stay on track with their academic plans.  A colleague of Sarah’s said this, “The fact that I feel like I "know her" despite never meeting her in person is indicative of how she engages with her colleagues.”

Michael Klein

Michael Klein was hired July 2020 as the Coordinator of Campus User Technology at Bay College.  In 2023, he was hired as the Enterprise Application Manager.  Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Product Design Engineering from Ferris State University and three Associate degrees from Bay College: Applied Science - Computer Aided Design; Computer Network Systems and Security; and Computer Information Systems.

Michael was nominated for this award because of his positive and helpful personality.  Despite his workload, Michael is prompt in his responses, and while he may not always have the answer, he goes out of his way to find a solution.  Michael has a calming demeanor about him that his colleagues find refreshing.  Michael always makes times for staff, faculty, and students, whether it’s technology concerns or a personal matter; he is there, and treats everyone with kindness and respect.  Michael’s colleague stated, “Besides helping with my questions, Michael also helps student employees around campus, and participates in student group activities.  In short, he is an active and positive member of the Bay community.”
