Bay College Announces 2023 Summer Concert Series

News

Strings on the Bay, the summer chamber music series presented by Bay de Noc Community College returns this summer with a slate of fantastic concerts.  The concerts are all in the Besse Center on the Escanaba campus, starting at 7pm EST, on select Tuesdays each month.

Paul Lundin, violinist and director of the series, will be joined by pianist Robert Conway of Wayne State University for an ultra-entertaining program entitled “Encore! Music of Stage, Screen and Radio” Tuesday June 27th.  The program will feature light classical music by Fritz Kreisler, novelty works, selections from Disney movies and from that great Mackinac Island film, Somewhere in Time!  Much of this music Lundin played when he entertained at the House of Ludington in the summers 1984-1995.

On Tuesday July 11 at 7PM, Strings on the Bay welcomes back flutist Emily Olson and her classical guitar virtuoso friend Brad DeRoche in a program they have entitled “Dream Travels.”  This features music from Japan, the native American Southwest, Columbia, and Romania.  DeRoche is professor of music at Delta College in Bay City Michigan.  Olson is a free-lance flutist in southeast Michigan and this is her third time playing on the series.

The summer series concludes with the True North Quartet, Tuesday August 8 at 7PM.  This group, founded by Lundin, has been bringing their unique programs to Strings on the Bay since 2010 and is an audience favorite.  This year the program is titled “Czech it Out.”  The biographical quartet “From My Life” by Bedrich Smetana is paired with “The Cypresses Quartet,” a set of love songs by Antonin Dvorak transcribed by the composer.  Hold hands with someone next to you and be swept away by these rarely heard compositions.

Tickets are available through the Bay college website: www.baycollege.tix.com, in-person at the Besse Center box office, or at the door prior to each concert.  Admission is $15, K-Bay $7, or all three concerts for $35 (a savings of $10).  Visit www.baycollege.tix.com, add each concert to the cart, and enter the discount code ‘3for30’ at checkout.
