Getting to know Connie Tresedder

What is your title at Bay College?

I am an adjunct faculty member at the West campus.

Where are you from?

I was born in Minnesota and my family moved to the U.P. when I was six years old.

What school(s) did you attend?

I graduated from Westwood H.S. and went downstate for undergrad. I attended Western Michigan University and then lived in Marinette, WI for a couple years with my husband before going to UW Madison for graduate school.

What did you do previous to coming to Bay?

I worked at a YMCA where I headed up a department; taught classes; and was a grant recipient before working at Bay College.

How long have you been a teacher at Bay College?

At the complete of Fall semester, I will have been teaching for Bay for 25 years. That seems impossible, but it is true.

What influenced you to pursue teaching?

I have basically been a teacher my whole life and love to inspire people to believe in themselves. Teaching the First Year Experience (FYE) courses have been a blessing to me. Seeing student’s lives transformed has been humbling and rewarding.

Can you tell me a time where you made a difference in a student’s life?

Many of the students in the FYE 101 course have sought me out semesters later to thank me or ask for advice. I have had the honor of making a difference in many student’s lives over the years. I regularly help students outside of the classroom with challenges they are facing as many other Bay faculty do. It has been a privilege to work for an organization with so many sincerely caring individuals.

What is your favorite summertime activity?

In the summer months I enjoy playing tennis, travelling and spending time with my family.

What do you look forward to the most about the start of a new semester?

I get excited for Fall semester because I know I will be meeting new students with new dreams. The thought of helping them navigate around roadblocks on the way to their future, gets me motivated to get back to work.

Growing up, what was your dream job?

I wanted to be a child psychologist. That was after I had wanted to be an over the road truck driver!
