“After finishing my senior year of high school, I was ready to be done with homework and studying. The thought of going back to school, even if it was only two more years, seemed unbearable. Nothing seemed to interest me enough that I wanted to turn it into a career. Regardless of how I felt, I decided to give it a few weeks and I am so glad that I did! My decision to attend Bay is one that I’ll never regret.”

In addition to being a part-time student at Bay College, Meredith works three jobs. This includes working seven-days a week on a local dairy farm milking cows and feeding calves, providing seasonal help at Norway’s Department of Public Works, and supporting the Student Services Department as a work study student . She enjoys having a busy schedule, which keeps her motivated and organized.

Meredith graduated from Iron Mountain High School in the spring of 2020. She didn’t know what kind of career she wanted to pursue and the choices felt overwhelming. After working on career exploration with Sarah Davy, Bay West Academic Support Coordinator, Meredith discovered her passion for advocating for equality. It was when Sarah had her complete the Meaningful Work Statement Project that helped her identify a more defined career path. She is now excited to continue her education and hopes to have a career in one of the many areas of social justice.

Meredith was surprised with the kindness and helpfulness offered by all the faculty, administration, and other staff members. She says her instructors and tutors are extremely approachable and willing to work with her if she needs any extra help. Meredith says two of her most valuable resources at Bay are the Student Success Center and the Office of Accessibility. “They have both made huge differences in my academic success. I was able to get tutoring through the Student Success Center and it has been great. Now I understand all of the course material and my grades have improved as well. I am so grateful for all of the amazing people I’ve had the chance to work with so far. You have probably heard this hundreds of times, but it’s true. Everyone at Bay College really does care about you. They want you to be successful and they’ll do whatever they can to help you."
