According to Bay College nursing student Regina Moloney, she did not initially plan to study at Bay. However, she transferred to the college a few years ago to pursue her goal of becoming a licensed practical nurse (LPN). Since then, she has found a lot to love about Bay.

After graduating from Manistique Middle & High School in 2018, Regina started taking classes at Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Two years later, she transferred to Bay. She said the COVID-19 pandemic (and the nationwide shift to online learning it caused) influenced that decision.

“It just made more sense to do it online at Bay, and I had heard great things about the program here,” she said.

She began taking Bay College classes in the fall 2020 semester.

“It was an incredibly smooth transition. Everyone at Bay was incredibly helpful,” Regina said.

Though her decision to transfer from NMU to Bay was related to online classes, Regina enjoys the emphasis Bay’s nursing program puts on tactile learning. She has appreciated the program’s simulation lab and clinics and the use of props by instructors during lectures.

“It’s very hands-on – that’s what I love the most here,” she said.

Regina knew she wanted to go into nursing well before she signed up for classes at Bay and even before she started studying at NMU.

“I’ve just always known I wanted to care for people. It didn’t take much thought – nursing was just what I wanted to do,” she said.

She said pursuing her LPN at Bay has been a great way to enter the nursing field.

“I do recommend this program to anyone who wants to go into nursing. It has definitely been my saving grace,” Regina said.

Along with its educational value, Regina said she has “met a lot of great friends” through the LPN program.

As of February 2022, Regina aims to graduate from Bay at the end of the summer 2022 semester.

“Once I get my license, I plan to move back to Manistique and get a job at our hospital. Then, I plan to jump right into getting my RN while working as an LPN,” she said.

She also knows she would like to work towards becoming an RN at Bay.

“It’s been a great experience here so far, and I would love to further my education here as long as I can,” Regina said.
