LaVerne Smith has been a Faculty member of the EMT/Paramedic Program at Bay de Noc Community College since 2015. She was previously its EMT/Paramedic Program Director and spearheaded the Program's initial accreditation with CoAEMSP and CAAHEP and its 3-year renewal with the State of Michigan in 2018. She holds a Bachelors in Biology with a minor in Education from St. Xavier University and a certificate in Computer Science from DePaul University. She is licensed as a Paramedic and Paramedic Instructor Coordinator with the State of Michigan and has 30 years of EMS experience. She is an instructor in ACLS, PALS, BLS CPR, and PHTLS. She has 23 years of medical-legal experience with the firm of Petrucelli & Waara, retiring in 2016. She was the AHA Training Center Coordinator with NorthSTAR Health System and Aspirus Hospital & Clinics, retiring in 2017. In 2013, she won the Board of Directors' Employee Spirit Award. She has been a Trustee of the Village of Alpha and Mastodon Township for 24 years, retiring in 2020.
