All-USA Community College Academic Team

Recognizing high student achievement

Two finalists will be chosen from Bay College and will be named to the 2024 All-Michigan Academic Team. Those two nominees will then compete nationally to be one of 20 students chosen for the All-USA Community College Academic Team. If chosen as one of those 20 National Finalists, each student receives a $5,000 scholarship. In addition to scholarships, team members are presented at the annual President’s Breakfast held during the American Association of Community Colleges Annual Convention.

The program is sponsored by Follett Higher Education Group with additional support provided by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa. Due to a common application and eligibility criteria, nominees to the All-USA Community College Academic Team may also be considered for the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team, New Century Scholars and All-State Community College Academic Teams when applicable. Nominated students who are also Phi Theta Kappa members may also quality for additional scholarship opportunities.

In its selection of nominees, the College’s instructional administration and division chairs will be looking for academic excellence, awards, honors, recognition for academic achievement, and service to your college and community. Please note that you do not have to be a member of Phi Theta Kappa to be eligible.

If you answer “Yes” to all the questions below, you are eligible for consideration in the All-USA Academic Team competition.

  • Are you currently enrolled at Bay College with a minimum of six (6) semester credit hours?
  • Do you have a minimum cumulative college-level GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for all coursework completed in the last five years?
  • Are you on track to earn an associate or a bachelor degree?
  • Will you have completed at least 36 college-level semester credits by Dec. 31, 2023, and be on track to complete at least 48 semester hours by August 31, 2024?
  • Is your college record free from suspension, probation, or serious disciplinary action?

If you are chosen and agree to be a nominee, you will be asked to fill out the official All-USA Academic Team online application which must be submitted by December 1, 2023. The official online application requires that you write responses to questions about your involvement in campus and community activities. In addition to these responses, you will be required to write an essay that focuses on an endeavor undertaken by you that utilized your community college education to improve your community or school. Please note, if you are one of the nominees chosen, you will need to identify an instructor who is willing to advise and support you in completing the application.
