Bay College will host the Upper Michigan Safety Conference on Friday, April 24, 2026, at its Escanaba campus. The full-day event draws workers, supervisors, and safety professionals from across the region to share knowledge, strengthen workplace safety practices, and recognize a milestone of 25 years of safety leadership.
Designed for employees and employers across all industries, the conference delivers practical education focused on preventing injuries and creating safer work environments. Attendees will gain valuable insight into current regulations, emerging workplace risks, and hands-on safety practices they can apply immediately.
Educational sessions will include updates from MIOSHA, fall protection strategies, safe cutting and chainsaw operation, accident and incident investigation techniques, workplace violence prevention, and active shooter preparedness and response.
The conference keynote, sponsored by Acrisure and Billerud – Escanaba, will be presented by nationally recognized safety speaker Brad Hertig. After losing both hands in a workplace accident as a teenager, Hertig dedicated his life to promoting personal responsibility and injury prevention. His powerful story has inspired audiences nationwide and reinforces the life-saving importance of workplace safety.
“As we celebrate 25 years of safety leadership in our region, Bay College is proud to bring people together to learn practical ways to make their workplaces safer,” said Bay College Business Development Manager Renée Lundberg. “By connecting experts, employers, and workers through safety education, we help organizations strengthen their safety practices and better protect the people who power their workforce.”
Held annually in observance of Worker Memorial Day, the conference also honors workers who have lost their lives on the job. Continuing a longstanding tradition, Bart Pickelman, director of MIOSHA, will present the Worker Memorial Michigan Roll Call.
Registration includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and dedicated time to connect with safety vendors and industry partners.
