Kaiylah Hanninen

Artist Bio

Born in Negaunee Michigan, Kaiylah Hanninen is a sixteen-year-old artist that specializes in traditional portraits and mixed media; some of her favorite materials to use are oil pastels, graphite, and acrylics.

Hanninen has been producing art since a young age. In middle school she won SET SEG’s holiday card competition in 2018, middle schoolers from across Michigan were given a theme and were challenged to create a holiday card, the theme was “Joy to the World”. Hanninen states that, “Winning the competition gave me recognition as well as prize money to purchase additional supplies that would help me advance my artistic abilities”.

Afterwards Hanninen began to realize, with the help of her art teacher, Pam Jacobson, the potential for a future career, if she continued to push herself to do bigger and better work.

"My work explores and is inspired by ideas commonly overlooked in life, including my own experiences and perceptions of the world around me. I am also inspired by lesser-known artists and music. The art I create reflects the abstractionism of how our brains work and think. I am an artist because I want to evoke emotions, memories by creating new perspectives."
