Though he ultimately hopes to pursue a degree program not currently offered at Bay College, Bay freshman Noah Baxter has made the most of his time at the school. According to Noah, Bay has been the perfect place to start his post-secondary education.

In the summer of 2021, Noah graduated from Menominee Junior/Senior High School. That fall, he started taking classes at Bay.

“I just decided to go straight to college instantly without taking a break,” he said.

His primary reasons for attending Bay were related to the college’s location and cost.

“It was only about an hour away from my hometown, and it was the cheapest option I thought … in the same state,” Noah said.

As he begins his second semester at Bay, Noah said he is happy with how things are going for him academically. In the long term, he hopes to pursue a theater degree elsewhere.

“I’m getting the grades I actually want in order to transfer,” he said.

Noah has been involved with the performing arts for the past five years. He started acting in seventh grade and has continued to do so ever since.

“It helped me realize the person I am – I love performing for people and making people happy,” he said.

Noah said his instructors have been an indispensable resource as he works to finish his general education classes.

“My teachers are really nice. They know exactly what they’re doing and how to help people,” he said.

Along with his studies, Noah has appreciated the social opportunities available to students at Bay.

“Finding the right people for making friends has not been hard at all,” he said.

As part of this, he has gotten involved with some of Bay’s extracurricular opportunities.

“I have been attending a couple of the clubs that are here,” Noah said.

Clubs that Noah has participated in so far include Gaming Galaxy and Bay’s Dungeons & Dragons club.

Noah aims to transfer out of Bay with his general education credits at the end of the winter 2023 semester. After leaving Bay, he hopes to complete a bachelor’s degree in theater at Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

No matter what the future holds for Noah, he said he is glad he began pursuing his higher education at Bay College.

“Bay is a really great place to start out for your first two years,” he said.
