Dickinson County to Host Michigan HOSA-Future Health Professionals Event

On Wednesday, January 9, 2019, Bay College West Campus will host the Michigan HOSA event for the Upper Peninsula. HOSA-Future Health Professionals, formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America, is a national career and technical student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Technology Education Division of ACTE. Over 250 students from across the Upper Peninsula will compete in Health Science, Health Profession, Emergency Preparedness, Leadership and Teamwork events. This will be the first time this program has been held in Dickinson County.

Sherie Courchaine, Health Occupations Instructor at the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District (DIISD) shared, “We are thrilled to be hosting this program. It creates driven, determined student leaders that are excited about healthcare!”

Through the HOSA Competitive Events Program, members can compete in teams or as individuals in over 55 different events related to all aspects of the health care industry. HOSA operates as an integral component of the health science education curriculum.

Through its network of state and local chapters, HOSA provides powerful instructional tools, recognition, leadership, networking, scholarships, and connections to the healthcare industry and thousands of members across the United States.
