Bay Offers Clinical Medical Assistant Program

Registration is open for Bay College Training & Development’s Clinical Medical Assistant program that begins on February 12. This non-credit workforce development program is designed to prepare students for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national certification examination. This training is also ideal for those interested in pursuing a future formal Nursing (LPN) or a Nursing (RN) program.

Clinical Medical Assistants are trained to function as professionals in multiple healthcare settings. Medical assistants with a clinical background perform various tasks including assisting with the administration of medications and with minor procedures, performing an EKG electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients and other related tasks. Job opportunities are prevalent with hospitals, clinics, and outpatient facilities. According to Salary.com, the Medical Assistant salary range in the United States falls between $31,832 and $37,284 per year.

The Clinical Medical Assistant training program consists of 140 course contact hours, plus a 160 hour clinical externship. The training schedule will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 pm – 9:30 pm starting February 12, running through May 23, 2019. Training will also take place on the following Saturdays from 9 am – 4:30 pm: February 23, March 9 & 23, April 6 & 27, and May 11, 2019. Cost of the program is $2,599 and includes textbooks and all training materials.
