News

An affordable, stable career pathway providing individuals a chance to make a difference.

Bay College West Campus will be offering a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training course starting on Monday, May 3 in Iron Mountain, MI. This program consists of 120 hours including a mixture of classroom lecture, laboratory, and clinical training running on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from May 3 through May 27 from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CT. The cost of the training is $1,175.00, plus the cost of scrubs and a textbook. Requirements for program entry include satisfactorily completing a medical examination before entrance to clinics, passing a criminal background check, and a negative COVID-19 test prior to clinicals.

“We are thrilled to be offering this training at the West Campus with our certified instructor Sherie Courchaine who brings over 30 years in healthcare teaching experience to this program,” said Gina Wollner, Dean of Bay College West Campus. “We made the decision to run the 120 hour class due to the close proximity to the Wisconsin border, which will allow students to work in 35 states including Michigan and Wisconsin once they pass their exam.”

A CNA's duties include moving patients from room-to-room, assisting with cleaning, and other manual tasks such as lifting patients, or facilitating the administration of an IV or injection. CNAs also work directly with patients in performing a variety of recreational or daily living activities and are a vital part of any hospital, clinic, or skilled nursing facility. After successfully completing the training, students will qualify to take the state competency evaluation test for nursing assistants.
