Bay College Announces 2022 Summer Concert Series

News

Strings on the Bay, the summer chamber music series presented by Bay de Noc Community College returns this summer with a slate of fantastic concerts.  The concerts are all at the Besse Center on Main Campus in Escanaba on select Tuesdays in the summer.  This summer, the concerts will have a new starting time of 7pm EST.

Paul Lundin, director of the series, has invited a trio of musicians to perform for the first concert on Tuesday, June 28 at 7pm.  Flutist Emily Olson is joined by violinist Mallory Tabb and pianist Robert Conway in a program entitled “Midsummer Medley”.  This program’s music is varied and fast paced.  Notable on the program are two women composers, Mel Bonis from France and Ethel Smythe of England.

On Tuesday, July 26 at 7pm, the series presents the Lansing Symphony Brass Quintet in “Brass Around the World.”  The group is led by Neil Mueller, trumpet professor at Central Michigan University.  Other members of the group are faculty members of Michigan State University and Oberlin Conservatory.  Come hear power under control!

The summer series closes with the True North Quartet on Tuesday, August 9 at 7pm.  This string quartet has been bringing their unique programs to Strings on the Bay since 2010 and is an audience favorite.  This year the program is titled “First and Only.”  They will perform the first quartets of Felix Mendelssohn and Peter Tchaikovsky and the only foray into quartet writing by George Gershwin – his beautiful “Lullaby.”

Tickets are available through the Bay college website: www.baycollege.tix.com, in-person at the Besse Center box office, or at the door prior to each concert.  Tickets are $6.00 for all students and Bay employees, $12.00 for adults, and $30.00 for three adult tickets.

Strings on the Bay would not be possible without the generous sponsors.  Bay College thanks those for their generous contributions.  Sponsorship opportunities are available for $120.00 and include two tickets to each concert and name in the program.  For more information or to become a sponsor, visit Network for Good or a check can be sent to: Bay College Foundation, 2001 N. Lincoln Rd. Escanaba, MI 49829.
