Bay College presents the Gordon Lightfoot Tribute with Mike Fornes performing Lightfoot - The Stories, The Songs”, the Canadian icon’s classic radio hits from the 60s, 70s, and 80s in the Besse Theater on November 3 at 7pm ET.

In celebration of Bay College’s 60th Anniversary, the Gordon Lightfoot Tribute band is performing on Thursday, November 3 at 7pm ET in the Besse Theater, Main Campus.  Mike Fornes and his band will be featuring “Lightfoot - The Stories, The Songs”, performing the Canadian icon’s classic radio hits along with popular album cuts from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.  The performance is accompanied by storytelling, sharing insight to the inspiration behind the songs and how they were written.

On stage, Mike Fornes’ portrayal of Gordon Lightfoot demonstrates his love of a genre.  His storytelling brings the songs to life.  “These songs are heart-wrenching at times, romantic beyond measure, and sorrowful at the loss of a love,” Fornes says of The Gordon Lightfoot Tribute’s setlist for the current tour.  His catalogue of Gord’s music includes upwards 76 songs.  “Other songs tell tales of the sea, a walk in the woods, or they celebrate Canada.”

The Gibson B-45 12-string and Martin D-18 guitars Mike uses in the concert are identical to the ones played by Gordon Lightfoot.  “There is a distinctive sound from Lightfoot’s guitars that are instantly recognizable in his recordings,” Fornes added.  “These tones bring us a little closer to recreating his signature songs.  It’s an honor to be able to perform these songs on stage.”

The tour’s stage set, lighting effects, instrumentation, clothing and mannerisms are identical to those presented by Gordon Lightfoot, live in concert.  This remarkable program pays tribute to the artist’s legacy of music, songwriting and history as a performer.
