Bay de Noc Community College’s “Strings on the Bay” chamber music series presents The True North Quartet on Tuesday, August 8, at 7:00 PM ET.  The program is entitled “Czech It Out!”  The True North Quartet has been a favorite of “Strings on the Bay” patrons for 13 years presenting unique programming of string quartet repertoire.  The concert will be held in the Besse Theater at the Bay College Escanaba Campus, 2001 N. Lincoln Road.  Tickets are available online, www.baycollege.tix.com or through the Besse Center Box Office, 906-217-4045.

This year’s concert will feature two quartets by composers with ties to the Czech Republic.  Bedrich Smetana’s autobiographical work “From My Life” presents his life in sound.  With moments of excitement, tenderness, and loss, it is a life story in sound.  Antonin Dvorak’s rarely heard “Cypresses Quartet” is to be performed.  Originally a set of art songs, the composer set them later for string quartet.  Hold hands with someone and enjoy these beautiful songs set for strings.

The quartet is composed of founder and violinist Paul Lundin, violinist Joseph Deller, violist Janine Bradbury and cellist Katri Ervamaa.

A reception with light refreshments will follow the concert, offering audience members an opportunity to visit with the performers.

Tickets are available through the Bay college website, www.baycollge.tix.com, at the Besse Center Box Office, 906-217-4045, or at the door prior to each concert.  Doors open at 6:30PM ET.  Admission is $15, K-Bay is $7.  K-Bay discount pricing is for students of all ages and Bay College students and/or employees.
