Bay College will be closed on Monday, January 15, 2024 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Bay College will resume normal operational hours on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

In honor of this significant day, Bay College is proud to present a special video featuring inspiring words from our President, Dr. Nerita Hughes, and Amy Reddinger, Vice President of Arts and Sciences and Diversity, Equity, and Belonging. The video aims to celebrate the enduring legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., and highlight an upcoming event with Lew Zuchman, an original 1961 Freedom Rider and Civil Rights Activist.

“The other aspect that he [Martin Luther King Jr.] talked about that I think is so fitting for our community and specifically our institution, is it doesn’t matter of the color of your skin, but it matters of the content of your character,” says Dr. Nerita Hughes. “And with that, on Monday, January 15, where he would have been 95, my hope is that you really look at our community through a different lens, and it’s always moving forward.”

We invite the community to watch this special video by following this link: Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Video.

Lew Zuchman will be speaking on Thursday, January 18 at 2pm ET in the Besse Center Theater on the Escanaba campus, with a reception to follow. The event is free and open to the public, offering a unique opportunity for the community to hear from a veteran of the Civil Rights movement and a distinguished leader in youth and family services.
