Noah Morgan

Noah Morgan is a Class of 2023 graduate from Norway High School.  While a high school student, Noah was a dual-enrolled student through Bay College.  Noah took some time out of his busy schedule recently to give us a little background on himself, his experience as a dual enrollment student, along with his plans for the future.

Before we get into Noah’s path to dual enrollment, along with his future plans, here are some facts about Noah:

  • Noah worked nearly full-time throughout his years in high school at Culver’s, where he ended up proudly becoming a shift leader, which allowed him to work towards saving money for college.
  • Noah studied Taekwondo and was an assistant instructor for many years.  At the age of 16 he earned his second-degree black belt, which took a total of 11 years to earn!
  • COVID began in March of Noah’s freshman year, which would see school closures that would happen periodically throughout his sophomore year.  It was during this time, however, that Noah worked ahead on completing high school courses.  By the start of his junior year, he had completed nearly all of his high school courses and was able to finish all of his high school courses by the end of his junior year.

As noted, Noah was also a dual-enrolled student at Bay College while he was in high school, which saw him complete over 40 credits of college-level classes!  His classes through Bay were a combination of courses taught online, at Norway High School, and on-site at the West Campus.  When asked what led him to decide to do dual enrollment courses, he said, “I had the drive to be the best student I could be and so from my freshmen year, I took Geometry and Algebra II at the same time to start getting ahead quickly. I heard from older students that dual enrollment was an option and I decided to see how far I could go with it and take as many classes as possible.”

Regarding his overall experience as a dual enrollment student at Bay College, he stated, “I simply cannot say enough great things about Bay College. I am proud of what the college stands for and what it offers to all students traditional, untraditional, and dual-enrolled. My dual enrollment experience was fantastic.  The staff was so supportive and the classes were rich with the knowledge that I will take with me to Michigan State.”

To build off that, we asked him if the experience was valuable and worth his time, and he happily stated, “ABSOLUTELY! I encourage all high school students to take this opportunity I have over 40 credits from Bay College and will be taking 30 credits with me to Michigan State University and it did not cost me a dime. Bay College has given me the opportunity to apply for transfer student scholarships which may help me pay for my education. Once again, I cannot say enough great things, I was given an excellent education, credits that transfer, an experience, and amazing support and advice from all the staff at Bay College.”

Now that he has completed high school, Noah plans to attend Michigan State University this fall with a goal of completing a master’s degree in Mathematics with the intention to teach at a community college.

What led Noah to decide on this career path?  While he knew he had a strong interest in becoming a teacher one day, it was taking on the role of tutor at both Norway and at Bay that helped him solidify his plans.  “The reason I wanted to become a tutor was that I had a strong interest in becoming a teacher one day.  At the beginning I was not sure whether I wanted to teach at the high school or the community college level. From being at Bay College, I quickly found out from professors that I would like to teach on the community college level. It seemed to me so fulfilling to give back to the local area and to those who are in need. I love what this college stands for and I thought I would like to be part of a community like that one day. So being a tutor for both Norway and Bay College was very fulfilling for me.  It allowed me to master my teaching style and gave me a sense of fulfillment from helping others who are in need. I learned to be flexible and dynamic in my teaching techniques to help my students reach their mathematics goals. Overall, a very positive experience that has led to me feeling very strongly about my career.”

He stated that the entire dual enrollment experience has allowed him to feel more confident about going to college and his experiences at Bay have put many of the fears and doubts he had about being successful in college to rest.  In addition to this, he is happy about the amount of classes he is bringing with him to MSU, the money he was able to save, and also having been given the exposure to know what direction he wants to go into professionally.

We truly wish Noah all the best in his future endeavors.
