Steve Johnson, 2021 Outstanding Staff at Bay College.

Bay College honors Steve Johnson, General Maintenance Specialist, as one of its recipients of the Outstanding Employee Award.  Johnson works in the Maintenance Department at Bay College.

Johnson joined Bay College in June 1999 as a part-time fill-in for custodial and maintenance. He was then hired full-time in 2000 as the Custodial/Maintenance Technician and then promoted to the General Maintenance Specialist in July 2002.  As an integral member of the Maintenance Department, Johnson provides carpentry and welding/fabrication support for building maintenance, and is charged with operating a variety of motorized equipment for snow removal and lawn care.

Johnson’s nominator states, “Steve is always enthusiastic and respectful in my encounters with him, and I often witness him around campus helping students, staff, and community members. Whether that is holding a door, jumping in to lift a heavy item, etc. Steve is aware of the needs of those around him and acts when he sees someone in need.”

Often times, the work he does at the college is done behind the scenes or at times when people are not around to witness it, but his work ethic and carpentry skills do not go unnoticed.

Steve Carlson, Facilities Manager states, “This has been my first full year at Bay College and I have depended on Steve's experience, knowledge and hard work from day one.  Steve takes extreme pride in making sure his work is done right. He is reliable, adaptable, and goes above and beyond of what is expected in performing his duties.”

Any Bay College employee, Board member, student, alumni, or community member may nominate a full-time or regular part-time exempt or non-exempt employee for the Bay College Outstanding Staff Award. These individuals must have completed three years of employment at Bay College. Nominees are judged on their job knowledge, respect and enthusiasm toward colleagues, students, and community members, creating a positive influence within the work environment, and collaboratively working with colleagues and staff.
