Be The One to impact education

Bay College in conjunction with the Bay de Noc Community College Foundation awarded students just over 300 scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year. According to Kim Carne, Vice President of College Advancement and the Foundation, this totaled nearly $1/2 million in support of student and community success through academic and financial need scholarships. “The College is extremely grateful to have such a supportive community helping achieve educational results today as well as for future generations. All size gifts to the Foundation make a difference – they bridge financial gaps and change lives forever.”

This year’s annual community fundraising campaign BE THE ONE highlights the potential each one of us has to impact a person, a cause, a community. Educational gifts to Bay College are way more than a transaction. Sharing inspires and opens doors to a broader, more significant Bay College for the betterment of each student, our communities and the world at large.

I’m the first person in my family to attend college so at times the experience has been overwhelming. As a single mother, full-time student and an employee, this scholarship takes a huge weight off my shoulders. - Chloe, Bay Student

Growing up, I thought college was beyond my reach. Your scholarship provided me with the financial means to move forward on earning a college degree. - Sarah, Bay Student

“Each gift to the college makes a difference – your support changes lives every day and advances the landscape of our communities through education and enrichment” John Anthony, Foundation Board President indicated. “Bay College’s impact would not be where it is today without private support from local businesses, organizations, foundations, families and community members. Bay College students, employees, and board members cannot thank our communities enough for their support.

College was not easy at age 40+. I love nursing. I wanted to give back to the college that gave me so much! - Susie, Bay Alumni & Donor

The Foundation also receives incredible participation from employees. According to Advancement Services Manager Vicki DeGrand, “Bay College employees are fantastic and are here for the students and their success, plus the viability of our communities. Last year with our Educate All campaign and Bids for Bay internal auction, employees pledged just over $10,000 for student success!”

In addition to student scholarships, emergency assistance, food insecurities support, arts enrichment and Norse athletic donations, generous gifts to the Foundation help advance academic programs. Most recently, Nurse Ann simulation modules for nursing assessments and paramedic training were added as well as equipment needed for Bay’s new Certified Medical Assistant programs on both campuses. Test equipment was also purchased for the flagship Water Technology program and technology upgrades completed in the Besse Theater.

There are many ways in addition to the campaign to support Bay College such as attending events on campus or participating in the annual Swing for Scholarships Golf Outing. Major gifts, IRA distributions, appreciated asset transfers and estate bequests also play a big part in catapulting educational opportunities and scholarship availability. Investing in education pays huge dividends in the hearts and minds of many!

Delta County area residents have provided educational support from the inception of the Bay de Noc Community College Foundation in 1972. Community support from the Dickinson County area has also been generous, including supporting a new campus in 2008. Bay College will be celebrating 60 years educating our communities in 2022. Bay College has graduated over 13,000 students with 15,000+ degrees and certificates, in addition to workforce training credentials. A distinguished Bay College Alumni is honored each year, applications to nominate are available at www.baycollege.edu/alumni.

The Bay College Foundation is a non-profit arm of the College for the sole purpose of supporting the mission of Bay College: Students Success, Community Success, Culture of Success.
