This past Saturday night was a very exciting evening for the Bay College/LSSU Regional Center Business Professionals of America (BPA) student club! Out of the club’s 4 student contestants, all 4 placed in the top 3 of their respective events at the BPA State Leadership Conference (SLC) hosted by Davenport University in Grand Rapids, MI.  They all have qualified for the National competition in Anaheim, CA, slated for April 26-29, 2023.

Erik Beals led the way capturing 4 first place finishes in Administrative Support Concepts, Meeting and Event Planning Concepts, Parliamentary Procedure Concepts, and Server Administration Using Microsoft.  Erik also finished in second place in Computer Security and Device Configuration & Troubleshooting.

Griffin Johnson, BPA Club President, earned 2 first place finishes in Contemporary Issues and in Ethics & Professionalism.  Griffin also placed third in Prepared Speech.

Tregan Lippens took 3 second place finishes in Contemporary Issues, Digital Marketing Concepts, and Ethics & Professionalism.

Nathan Howes took 3rd place in Managerial Accounting.

“I felt what I gained from the BPA State Leadership Conference was an experience I could not have gained anywhere else.  It gave me a chance to test my abilities and understand where I rank against other college students in the State.  This experience also helped me gain an extraordinary amount of confidence in myself and gave me a chance to meet a lot of different students and professors (judges).  I will prepare accordingly for the National Leadership Conference and will continue to gain new experiences and further my skill sets,” BPA Club President, Griffin Johnson.

Officially formed in 1966 as the Office Education Association (OEA), Business Professionals of America (BPA) has a strong history as a student organization that contributes to the preparation of global professionals through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills for students at the Middle, Secondary and Post-secondary levels.
